Biography: Amado Carrillo Fuentes, known as "The Lord of the Skies," led the Juárez Cartel until his death in 1997. He earned his nickname by using a fleet of jets to transport large quantities of cocaine from Mexico to the United States.

Carrillo Fuentes was born into a family with ties to drug trafficking. His uncle, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo, was a leader of the Guadalajara Cartel. Carrillo Fuentes began working for the cartel and eventually took control of the Juárez Cartel after killing his former boss, Rafael Aguilar Guajardo.

Under his leadership, the Juárez Cartel grew into a multibillion-dollar criminal enterprise with Carrillo Fuentes having an estimated wealth of $25 billion when he died. He also worked with other notorious drug lords such as Pablo Escobar and Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán to expand his operations.

In 1997, Carrillo Fuentes underwent plastic surgery to change his appearance and evade authorities. He died during the operation, however, due to unexpected complications. The circumstances surrounding his death remain mysterious, and the surgeons who performed the procedure were later found murdered.

Carrillo Fuentes' death led to increased violence and instability within the Juárez Cartel. Authorities ultimately seized assets worth billions of dollars, and his son, Vicente Carrillo Leyva, was arrested in 2009.
