Biography: Keir Starmer is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the Labour Party. He succeeded Rishi Sunak after Labour’s success in the 2024 election.

Starmer grew up in Surrey, attending Reigate Grammar School on a scholarship. He studied law at the University of Leeds and Oxford University, becoming a barrister in 1987. His legal career focused on human rights cases, including work on death row appeals in the Caribbean.

In 2002, Starmer was appointed Queen's Counsel, a senior legal position. He later served as an adviser on policing in Northern Ireland. From 2008 to 2013, Starmer was the Director of Public Prosecutions, overseeing major criminal cases for England and Wales.

Starmer entered politics in 2015, winning election as a Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras. He quickly rose through Labour Party ranks, becoming Shadow Brexit Secretary under party leader Jeremy Corbyn. In this role, Starmer advocated for a second referendum on Brexit.

In 2020, Starmer was elected leader of the Labour Party. He moved the party towards more centrist positions and addressed internal issues such as the accusations of antisemitism that had plagued the party under Corbyn.

His leadership culminated in Labour's victory in the 2024 general election, making Starmer Prime Minister.

As Prime Minister, Starmer has stated an intent to prioritize economic growth, clean energy initiatives, and reforms to public services. He is married to Victoria Alexander, and they have two children. Outside of politics, Starmer is known for his support of Arsenal Football Club.
