Biography: Al Geiberger was an American golfer who was the first player to score 59 in a PGA Tour event. Over the years, Geiberger accumulated a total of 11 PGA Tour wins.

Born in California, Geiberger's talent emerged early when he won the 1954 National Jaycee Championship. He went on to attend Menlo College before graduating from the University of Southern California in 1959.

The same year, he turned professional and soon joined the PGA Tour in 1960. His career reached a milestone with a major victory at the 1966 PGA Championship. His roster of victories extended as Geiberger represented the United States in the Ryder Cup teams of 1967 and 1975.

The highlight of Geiberger's career came at the 1977 Danny Thomas Memphis Classic, where he made history by shooting a 59, earning him the moniker "Mr. 59." This record-breaking performance occurred amidst stiff competition, including a challenge from the renowned Gary Player.

Beyond his headline accomplishments on the PGA Tour, Geiberger also claimed victories at other golfing events such as the 1979 Spalding Invitational and the 1985 Colorado Open. His success extended into his senior years with 10 victories on the Senior PGA Tour.

In terms of his family life, Geiberger's son, Brent Geiberger, followed in his footsteps to become a professional golfer. He also dealt with personal tragedy when his father perished in the Tenerife airport disaster in 1977.
