Biography: Al Kaline was an American baseball player who played his entire 22-season career with the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball (MLB). Known affectionately as "Mr. Tiger," his skill in the outfield was acknowledged with ten Gold Glove Awards and his constant presence at the All-Star Games, being selected 18 times.

Kaline achieved the distinguished milestone of 3,000 career hits, ultimately gaining entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980. After retiring, he stayed loyal to the Tigers, working as a TV color commentator and in the front office until his death in 2020.

Born in Baltimore, Kaline overcame ill-health in his childhood, suffering from osteomyelitis, and to perform admirably in youth baseball. His athletic prowess led to his immediate signing with the Tigers after graduation.

Kaline stepped onto the major league field with the Tigers in 1953 and swiftly rose to prominence by taking the AL batting title by the age of 20 in 1955. His consistent performance into the 1950s and 1960s was decorated with top statistical rankings and multiple MVP considerations.

Kaline played center field in 1960 before reverting to right field. He faced hurdles in the form of injuries but still maintained impressive offensive contributions, peaking with 29 home runs in 1962.

During the Tigers' 1968 World Series triumph, Kaline was instrumental, delivering crucial hits. Nearing the end of his playing days, Kaline's endurance was still evident, achieving the 3,000 hit mark in 1974 and retiring thereafter.

Kaline's commitment to the Tigers and baseball persisted beyond his active years. After retiring, he received accolades like the Roberto Clemente Award. The Tigers also honored him by retiring his number 6 jersey.

In terms of personal life, Kaline married his high school sweetheart, Madge Louise Hamilton, and together they raised two sons. His legacy was continued by his grandson Colin Kaline, who went into the minor leagues and was drafted by the Tigers.
