Biography: Alexander Ovechkin is a Russian ice hockey player, best known as left winger and captain for the Washington Capitals. He is commonly considered one of the all-time greatest goal-scorers, coming secondly only to Wayne Gretzky for total career goals.

Ovechkin started out playing for Dynamo Moscow in the Russian Superleague before being drafted by the Capitals in 2004. He would win the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year during the 2005-2006 season, after scoring 52 goals and 54 assists in the season.

Since then he has won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy for leading goal-scorer nine times, starting with the 2007-2008 season in which he scored 65 goals. He has also won the Hart Memorial Trophy for most valuable player in 2008, 2009, and 2013.
