Biography: Alexander Cartwright is best known as a co-founder of the New York Knickerbockers Base Ball Club in 1840s. This has led some to regard him as the 'father of baseball,' including being inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The precise involvement of Cartwright in the development of the game, however, remains disputed. While it has commonly been regarded that the Knickerbocker Rules which Cartwright developed with a committee in 1845 were the basis of the game, later research has called this into question.
