Biography: Alice Marble was an American tennis player, best known for winning 18 Grand Slam championships between 1936 and 1940. She won five singles titles, six women's doubles titles, and seven mixed doubles titles; as a result she was ranked world number one in 1939.

Marble won her first title at the US Open in 1936, and she win would the singles titles there again from 1938 to 1940. She also won the women's doubles at the US Open from 1937 to 1940, with Sarah Palfrey Cooke as her partner.
