Biography: Allan Border is a former outstanding left-hand opening batsman and long-term captain of the Australian cricket team.

In a stellar career he played 156 Tests (a record 93 as captain), scoring 11,174 runs with a batting average of 50.56. He scored 27 Test centuries and 63 fifties with a top score in Test cricket of 205.

Border was just the second man in Test history to score 10,000 runs and in 1993 he passed Sunil Gavaskar's 10,122 runs to become the then highest scorer in Test history.

Following retirement as a player Border served as an Australian selector and he now works in television commentary for Fox Sports Australia.

Border was one of the 55 inaugural inductees of the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame and the Allan Border Medal is awarded to Australia's best player throughout the previous year.
