Biography: Ann Lee was an American religious figure, best known as the founding leader of the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing. The group which she founded is now better known as the Shakers, a name which they received for their emphasis on ecstatic dancing.

Lee is an important figure for her direct influence, but also for being a female leader and preacher during a time when this was uncommon.
