Biography: Archduke Charles, Duke of Teschen, was an Austrian field marshal. He was the son of Emperor Leopold II and Maria Luisa of Spain, as well as the younger brother of Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor.

While Charles was epileptic, he found success in the Austrian army as a commander and reformer. He is regarded as one of the most significant generals of the French Revolutionary Wars, in which he was a fierce opponent of Napoléon Bonaparte.

Charles is renowned for his success against Napoleon at the Battle of Aspern-Essling, which was Napoleon's first substantial setback. He subsequently suffered a significant defeat, however, at the Battle of Wagram which put an end to his participation in the Napoleonic Wars.
