Biography: Bob Packwood was an Oregon politician who served as a United States Senator from 1969 to 1995. A member of the Republican Party, he was first elected to the Senate in 1968 and served five consecutive terms.

Packwood began his political career in the Oregon State Legislature, serving in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1959 to 1963 and in the Oregon State Senate from 1963 to 1968. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1968 and was reelected in 1974, 1980, 1986, and 1992.

During his time in the Senate, Packwood was a strong advocate for environmental protection, women's rights, and campaign finance reform. He played a key role in the passage of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act. He also helped to enact the Equal Credit Opportunity Act and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.

In 1995, Packwood resigned from the Senate amid allegations of sexual harassment. He was later convicted of ethics violations and served four months in a halfway house. After leaving the Senate, Packwood worked as a lobbyist and consultant.
