Biography: Bobi Wine is a pop star turned politician in his native Uganda. He turned to politics in 2017 and led the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) in an effort to oust long-serving Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni from power.
In 2021 he contested the presidential elections, losing to Museveni but earning 34.8% of the vote. Wine vowed to continue claiming the vote was corrupted by Museveni's restrictive control of the country and its security forces.
In December 2021 he was placed under house arrest by the Ugandan government.
