Biography:Born in South Africa, Theron emigrated to Italy and worked as model, and then to America to pursue a career in film. She worked in a variety of genres, garnering praise in "Cider House Rules" (1999), and winning an Academy Award for Best Actress in "Monster" (2003). She continues to work in film on screen, and occasionally as a producer.
In 2007, Theron became a US citizen, and started a foundation for HIV/AIDS prevention in South Africa. She is a UN Messenger of Peace, and an activist for human rights, women's rights, and same-sex marriage.
