Poliakoff adopted the stage name Coco the Clown and gained fame through his performances with the Bertram Mills Circus in the United Kingdom. His character was distinguished by an elaborate costume, complete with a large ruffled collar and oversized shoes, which has since become emblematic of the clowning tradition.

Throughout his career, Poliakoff was known for his slapstick humor and pantomime routines, winning over audiences with his comedic timing and physical comedy. He continued performing until his retirement in 1974, making appearances on television and in circuses around the world.
