Biography: D. H. Lawrence was an important and influential English writer of novels, plays, travel books and essays. Lawrence's work was considered scandalous for the way he freely wrote about sex, mostly famously in his novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover" (1928) which was the subject of an obscenity trial in the 1960s in the UK.

The son of a coal miner from Nottingham, Lawrence's work was often autobiographical and frequently concerned with the evils of an industrialized modern society. Other famous works include " Sons and Lovers", "The Rainbow" and "Women in Love".

Lawrence died of tuberculosis in 1930 aged just 44, after suffering from it for most of his life.
