Biography: Dan Campbell is an American football coach best known for his tenure as the head coach of the Detroit Lions and his previous career as a tight end. His journey from a player to a coach in the NFL encompasses stints with multiple teams, including a Super Bowl win as a player.

Born in Texas, Dan Campbell attended Glen Rose High School where he played high school football before going on to Texas A&M University, sharing the tight end position with Derrick Spiller.

After college, Campbell entered the NFL, drafted by the New York Giants in the 1999 NFL Draft. While with the Giants, Campbell played in Super Bowl XXXV. He then continued his career with the Dallas Cowboys, where he emerged as a team leader, and with the Detroit Lions.

In 2009, Campbell signed with the New Orleans Saints but was placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Though the Saints won Super Bowl XLIV that year, Campbell's injury precluded him from earning a Super Bowl ring.

Transitioning into coaching, Campbell began as a coaching intern with the Miami Dolphins in 2010 and was promoted to interim head coach in 2015. He furthered his coaching experience as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the New Orleans Saints starting in 2016.

In 2021, Campbell was named the head coach of the Detroit Lions, bringing with him a philosophy that emphasized building a resilient team ethos. His first season leading the Lions culminated in a 3–13–1 record. Improvement was evident the following year with a 9–8 record, though the team narrowly missed the playoffs.

In the 2023 season, under Campbell's guidance, the Lions secured their first division title since 1993 and achieved their first playoff victory since 1991, ultimately competing in the NFC Championship game. Campbell's risk-taking plays, however, were scrutinized following the team's loss in the championship game.
