Biography: Dwight Gooden, nicknamed "Dr. K" and "Doc", is a former American professional baseball pitcher who played 16 seasons in the Major Leagues.

As a 19-year-old rookie with the NY Mets, Gooden burst onto the scene earning the first of 4 All-Star selections, winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award and leading the NL in strikeouts. In 1985, he won the NL Cy Young Award and achieved the pitching Triple Crown, compiling a 24–4 record, a league-leading 1.53 ERA, 268 strikeouts and 16 complete games.

In 1986, despite being part of the Mets' World Series victory, his career tapered as a result of the start of cocaine and alcohol addiction.

He did pitch a no-hitter with the Yankees in 1996 but Gooden's later career is littered with suspensions and club movements. Unfortunately his troubles with addiction continued after his retirement in 2000 resulting in several arrests and periods in prison.
