Earl Weaver

MLB Manager Earl Weaver

Profession: MLB Manager

Nationality:
United States of America
American

Biography: Weaver played minor league baseball, then managed minor league teams; while he never played Major League Baseball himself, he would later go on to manage the Baltimore Orioles for 17 years (1968-1982; 1985-1986).

As a result of his performance during this time, in 1996 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His management style was notable for its emphasis on substantial tactics ("pitching, defense, and the three-run homer"), and arguably a neglect of more minor elements.

He was also renowned for his disputes with umpires: "Earl Weaver hated umpires with every fiber of his win-or-die being. He yelled at them. He screamed in their faces. He kicked dirt on them. He tore up rule books. He taunted and tortured them."
