Biography: Edgar Rice Burroughs was an American fiction writer best known for creating Tarzan and the heroic Mars adventurer John Carter. He wrote a large number of books across several genres: adventure, science fiction, and fantasy—but he is best known for Tarzan.

His first work featuring Tarzan, titled Tarzan of the Apes (1912), was a success. The character of Tarzan, the wild man raised by apes, is considered one of the most enduring creations in fiction, symbolizing the primal and untamed nature of humanity. This success led to numerous sequels.

Apart from Tarzan, Burroughs created other notable series such as the Pellucidar series, the Caspak trilogy, and the Amtor series. The most popular of these was the Barsoom series, which features John Carter—a character that was later made into the 2012 film, John Carter, starring Taylor Kitsch in the titular role.
