Biography: Ferdinand III of Castile was a Spanish monarch who reigned from 1217 to 1252. He was born in 1201 and was the son of Alfonso IX of Castile and Berengaria of Castile. Ferdinand III was a powerful ruler and under his reign Castile acquired a great deal of territory, including most of the modern day Spanish provinces of Leon, Galicia, and Seville.

He was known for his military prowess and led successful campaigns against the Moors, regaining much of the Iberian peninsula for Christian control. Ferdinand III was an effective and respected ruler who was popular among his people.
