Biography: As the commander of Apollo 8, NASA astronaut Frank Borman, along with crew mates Jim Lovell and Bill Anders were the first to fly around the Moon in 1968. They orbited the moon ten times during the six-day mission and were the first humans to see and take pictures of the far side of the moon.

Prior to this in 1965 Borman, along with Lowell, crewed NASA's Gemini 7, an endurance test mission that kept them in space for 330 hours. They also performed the first space rendezvous as part of this mission, coming within a few feet of Gemini 6.

Borman resigned form NASA in 1970 and became an executive at Eastern Airlines.
