Biography:Frederick Law Olmsted has been called the father of American Landscape design. His most famous work is New York's Central Park. Olmstead won the design competition for Central Park in 1858 with Calvert Vaux to create America's first major landscaped public park. Olmsted believed public spaces were for all, not just a playgrounds for the elite and was careful to design the park along egatiterian lines.
Olmsted was also an early conservationist and advocated for the preservation of Niagara Falls.
