Biography: Gregg Allman was an American musician, singer-songwriter, and a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. He is best known for songs like "Whipping Post" and "Midnight Rider."

Gregg and his brother Duane formed the Allman Brothers Band in 1969, fusing rock, blues, jazz, and country music. The band gained acclaim with At Fillmore East (1971), but Duane's sudden death the same year deeply impacted Gregg and the band's future.

Allman embarked on a solo career, with his debut Laid Back (1973), while still a member of the Allman Brothers Band. His marriage to Cher and their musical collaboration drew public attention alongside his struggles with substance abuse.

The Allman Brothers Band found continued success with albums like Brothers and Sisters (1973) despite their challenges. Gregg's single "I'm No Angel" (1987) became a hit, and his later work included Low Country Blues (2011).

A pioneer of Southern rock, Allman received Grammy recognition and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite passing away in May 2017, he released his final album, Southern Blood (2017), posthumously.
