Biography: Hassan II was the King of Morocco from 1961 until his death in 1999, the eldest son of Sultan Mohammed V. During his reign, he pursued policies aimed at modernizing Morocco and maintaining the nation's stability, though his rule was marked by a firm hand and resistance to political dissent.

Hassan II's reign saw significant economic and infrastructure development in Morocco, with efforts to diversify the economy and reduce the country's reliance on agriculture. However, his time as king was also marked by repression of political opposition, leading to a number of high-profile uprisings and assassination attempts, notably the failed military coups of 1971 and 1972.

In the later years of his rule, Hassan II implemented some political reforms in response to domestic and international pressure, including the establishment of a constitutional monarchy and the expansion of the Moroccan Parliament's powers. He was succeeded by his son, Mohammed VI, upon his death in 1999.
