Biography: Ian Dury was a British singer-songwriter and actor. He is best known for his work with the band Ian Dury and the Blockheads and for hits such as "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" (1977) and "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" (1978).

Ian Dury overcame the obstacles of polio at age seven and pursued a successful education in art, studying under Peter Blake. He taught art before delving into music with his band Kilburn and the High Roads. In 1977, following the dissolution of the band, Dury launched his solo career with "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" and burst onto the scene with New Boots and Panties!! (1977).

He formed Ian Dury and the Blockheads in 1977 and enjoyed commercial success with "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" in 1978. The group became known for their live shows and was prominent in the British new wave scene. Dury was also noted for his controversial release "Spasticus Autisticus" (1981), which was a direct response to the International Year of Disabled Persons.

Alongside his music career, Dury appeared in several films, including The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989) and Judge Dredd (1995). He engaged in television, musical performance, and was active in charity work, advocating for safe sex and serving as an ambassador for UNICEF.

Dury's personal life included a marriage to Elizabeth Rathmell in 1967, with whom he had two children. His later life saw relationships with Denise Roudette and Jane Horrocks, and he eventually married Sophy Tilson, with whom he had two more children. Dury was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 1996 and passed away in 2000.
