Biography: Ingmar Bergman was a Swedish filmmaker, widely considered one of the greatest of all time. He is known for the psychological and spiritual depth of his films, and director Martin Scorsese remarked that "it's impossible to overestimate the effect" of his works.

Bergman got a start in his career working on scripts after directing a play of his own at the local theatre where he was an assistant director. His first proper accomplishment in the world of film was writing the screenplay for Torment (1944), which was then directed by Alf Sjöberg.
