Biography:Jean Anouilh was an important French playwright whose plays worked a fine line between tragedy and black comedy.
Anouilh's career spanned five decades and produced around 40 plays. His most famous plays include "Antigone" (1944), an adaptation of the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles' play. Anouilh's version was noted for his criticism of the German occupation of France and the Vichy government.
Other popular productions include "L'Invitation au Chateau" (Ring Around the Moon) from 1947 and "The Lark" (1953).
