Biography: Jerry Barber was an American professional golfer best known for his putting ability and for winning the PGA Championship in 1961. During his career on the PGA Tour, he secured seven wins and became a significant figure, serving as a Ryder Cup captain.

Barber turned professional in 1942, beginning his career during a transformative time for professional golf. He was a full-time member of the PGA Tour from 1948 to 1962. His first victory came at the Azalea Open Invitational in 1959. T

he pinnacle of his career was his win at the 1961 PGA Championship, where he emerged victorious after a playoff against Don January. This win made him the oldest PGA Championship winner at that time, a record held until Julius Boros' victory in 1968. Barber represented the United States in the Ryder Cup in 1955 and served as captain for the team in 1961.

Known for his diminutive stature as "little Jerry Barber," he was one of the best putters on tour. In addition to competing, he worked as a club professional at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles, which was not uncommon for touring pros of his era. In his later years, Barber set a record as the oldest player to compete on the PGA Tour at the 1994 Buick Invitational.

Barber was married to Lucile and had five children. After Lucile's death in 1968, he continued his career and remained active in the golfing community. In 1966, he made a guest appearance as himself on the television show I Dream of Jeannie.
