Biography: Judy Holliday was an American actress, comedian, and singer best known for her comedic roles on stage and screen, especially her portrayal of Billie Dawn in the play "Born Yesterday" and its 1950 film adaptation, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress.

Holliday began her career in the late 1930s as part of the nightclub act "The Revuers" with Betty Comden and Adolph Green. She made her Broadway debut in "Kiss Them for Me" (1945) before landing her breakthrough role as Billie Dawn in "Born Yesterday" (1946) on Broadway. Holliday reprised the role in the 1950 film version, winning an Academy Award and Golden Globe for her performance.

Throughout the 1950s, Holliday starred in several successful films, including "It Should Happen to You" (1954) and "Phffft" (1954) alongside Jack Lemmon. She also appeared in "The Solid Gold Cadillac" (1956), once again playing the character of Billie Dawn. In 1956, Holliday starred in the Broadway musical "Bells Are Ringing", for which she won a Tony Award, and later reprised her role in the 1960 film adaptation.

Despite being named in the "Red Channels" publication as a Communist sympathizer in 1950 and testifying before the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee in 1952, Holliday's career remained relatively undamaged by the allegations.

In her personal life, she was married to clarinetist David Oppenheim from 1948 to 1957, with whom she had a son, Jonathan. Holliday also had a relationship with jazz musician Gerry Mulligan in the late 1950s and was known for supporting progressive political candidates.
