Biography: Kevin McCarthy was an American politician who served as the 55th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. His career spanned various positions within the government, from a local college district trustee to holding one of the highest political offices. He faced numerous challenges and controversies, including his relationship with Donald Trump and his stance on the 2020 election results.

McCarthy started his political career as district director for Congressman Bill Thomas and later won a seat as a Kern Community College District trustee in 2000. He entered the California State Assembly in 2002, where he became the Republican floor leader. In 2006, McCarthy was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, quickly advancing to roles such as House Majority Whip and later House Majority Leader.

In the House, McCarthy was initially supportive of Trump's claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election but shifted his position following the Capitol riot on January 6.

In 2023, after a protracted series of votes, he was elected Speaker of the House but faced a debt-ceiling crisis shortly thereafter. By October 2023, McCarthy was removed from his role as Speaker, a rare occurrence in U.S. politics, leading to his resignation from Congress at the end of that year.

McCarthy married Judy McCarthy, with whom he had two children. He was actively involved in the Southern Baptist community and dealt with personal allegations, like the disputed affair with Representative Renee Ellmers.
