Biography: Lauryn Hill is an American rapper and singer-songwriter best known as a member of the Fugees, alongside Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, and for her solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
Hill first came to fame after starring in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit (1993) alongside Whoopi Goldberg, in which she also sung on two songs in the soundtrack.
Subsequently she formed the Fugees with Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, and the group released their best known album, The Score (1996). This album featured the hit single Killing Me Softly, which was initially composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel and Lori Lieberman.
Her solo studio album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was released in 1998 to critical acclaim. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and achieved the highest first-week sales for a women's debut album in the 20th century.
