Biography: Matt Groening is an influential American cartoonist, writer, and producer, best known as the creator of the animated television series The Simpsons, the longest-running American sitcom and animated program. His distinct art style, humor, and storytelling approach have made him a significant figure in modern pop culture.

Groening's career in animation started with the syndicated comic strip Life in Hell, which began in 1977 and ran until 2012. Its success led to his recruitment by James L. Brooks to create animated shorts for The Tracey Ullman Show, where The Simpsons first appeared in 1987. Two years later, the shorts were developed into a half-hour prime time show, and the rest is television history.

The Simpsons has won numerous awards, including over 30 Primetime Emmy Awards, and has profoundly influenced popular culture. Its characters, particularly Homer Simpson, are universally recognized, and it's known for its satirical and often prophetic take on a wide range of social issues.

In 1999, Groening launched another successful animated series, Futurama, a science fiction sitcom set in the 31st century. The show, co-developed with David X. Cohen, earned critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. Groening's more recent work includes the Netflix series Disenchantment, which premiered in 2018.
