Biography: Nino Benvenuti was an Italian boxer who competed from 1956 to 1972. He was a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a three-time world champion in the welterweight and junior middleweight divisions.

Benvenuti began his professional career in 1961. He won his first world championship in 1967, defeating Sandro Mazzinghi for the world junior middleweight title.

In 1967, Benvenuti beat Emile Griffith in Madison Square Garden to win the world middleweight title. He would fight Griffith twice more, losing the first and winning the second.

Ultimately Benvenuti would lose the title to Carlos Monzón in 1970. While the two fought in a rematch, Benvenuti lost again and at this announced his retirement in the face of a new generation of fighters.

Benvenuti retired from boxing in 1972 with a record of 82 wins, 7 losses and 1 draws. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.
