Biography: Joseph Goebbels was Reich Minister of Propaganda in Nazi Germany from 1933 to 1945. He is best known for his skilled use of propaganda to promote Nazi ideology and justify the persecution of Jews.

Goebbels joined the Nazi Party in 1924 and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the Gauleiter of Berlin in 1926. After the Nazis came to power in 1933, Adolf Hitler appointed Goebbels as the Reich Minister of Propaganda, giving him control over all forms of media in Germany.

Throughout the 1930s, Goebbels used his position to spread antisemitic propaganda and advocate for harsher discrimination against Jews. He played a key role in orchestrating Kristallnacht in 1938, a night of widespread violence against Jewish businesses and synagogues. As World War II progressed, Goebbels supported the deportation and extermination of Jews in the Holocaust.

In the final days of the war, Goebbels moved into Hitler's bunker in Berlin. After Hitler's suicide on April 30, 1945, Goebbels briefly served as Chancellor. On May 1, 1945, however, Goebbels and his wife Magda poisoned their six children and then committed suicide.
