Biography: R. Norris Williams was an American tennis player who won two singles titles at the Grand Slam tournaments, the Wimbledon Championships in 1920 and the U.S. National Championships in 1918.

Williams' father, Richard Williams, was a successful businessman, and his mother, Annie, was a former opera singer. Norris Williams began playing tennis at an early age and quickly developed into a top junior player. In 1910, he won the National Junior Singles Championship.

Williams turned professional in 1913 and soon established himself as one of the best players in the world. In 1918, he won the U.S. National Championships, defeating world No. 1 William Tatem in the final.

The following year, he won Wimbledon, defeating reigning champion George Caridia in the final. Williams also won the doubles titles at both Wimbledon and the U.S. National Championships in 1918.

Williams's career was cut short by the outbreak of World War I. He served in the U.S. Army from 1918 to 1919 and was stationed in France. After the war, Williams returned to tennis and won several more tournaments, but he was never able to recapture his pre-war form.
