Wilson began her acting career with a guest appearance on The Brady Bunch in 1972. Following her studies at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, she went on to feature in films such as Sleepless in Seattle (1993) and Runaway Bride (1999). She also took roles on television shows like The Good Wife and appeared on Broadway.

As a producer, Wilson achieved success with My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002) and was involved in the Mamma Mia! film series. She launched her production company, Artistic Films, with A Man Called Otto (2022).
