Biography: Tommy John is an American former professional baseball pitcher and four-time MLB All-Star who played for 26 seasons between 1963 and 1989. He is best known for his breakthrough surgical procedure, now known as Tommy John surgery.

John tore his ulnar collateral ligament in a 1974 match against the Montreal Expos, which had previously meant the end of a player's career. John had a successful operation and went on to pitch until 1989.
