Biography: V.S. Naipaul is the recipient of the 2001 Nobel Prize for Literature. He has published more than 30 books both of fiction and nonfiction over 50 years.

Naipaul's best-regarded works include "A House for Mr Biswas" (1961), "In a Free State", which won the 1971 Booker Prize and "A Bend in the River" (1979). He was knighted in 1990.
