Profession: Prime Minister of Greece
Biography: Alexis Tsipras is a Greek politician who served as Prime Minister of Greece from 2015 to 2019 and now serves as Leader of the Opposition. He is a member of the Coalition of the Radical Left – Progressive Alliance, better known as SYRIZA; a party which he has led since 2009.
Tsipras led Greece during towards the end of their debt crisis in the 2010s. His tenure began with a rocky start, with intraparty defections robbing him of his majority seven months into his term. Tsipras resigned and called for a snap election, with which he return to power but now with a more stable base.
After this snap election, Tsipra held the position of prime minister comfortably for several years. During this time he dealt with the Greek government debt crisis, initiated the Greek bailout referendum, and participated in the response to the European migrant crisis.
