Biography: Archibald MacLeish was an America poet, associated with the modernist school, who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize three times.

MacLeish attended Yale University and then Harvard Law School, but his studies were interrupted by World War I. During the war, in which his brother Kenneth died, he served first as an ambulance driver and then as an artillery officer.

While he worked a while as a lawyer after the war, he soon moved with his wife to Paris where he began his literary career in earnest. After returning to the United States, now an established poet, MacLeish took up the role of Librarian of Congress.
