Biography: Archibald Primrose was British Liberal Party Prime Minister for just 15 months (1894-95), only rising to the post after the resignation of William Gladstone, with whom he'd been politically aligned with since 1879 when he managed Gladstone's first campaign for office.

Born into Scottish aristocracy Primrose was a firm believer in the British Empire and served two terms as Foreign Secretary. As Prime Minister divisions within his own party and a strong conservative opposition led to the fall of his government. He resigned as leader of his party in 1896.
