Biography: Auguste Rodin is regarded as one of the fathers of modern sculpture.

An unconventional training, interest in the works of Michelangelo and Dante led to such works as 'The Thinker' and 'The Kiss', both part of a commission 'The Gates of Hell' for a museum in Paris.

While hugely popular in his lifetime his works were often controversial for their erotic nature. On his death Rodin arranged for all his works to be left to the French state, on display at his former studio in the Hôtel Biron.
