Biography: Bryan Stevenson is an American lawyer, social justice activist, and author who has made a significant impact in the fight against mass incarceration and racial inequality. He is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), a non-profit organization based in Montgomery, Alabama, that provides legal representation to prisoners who may have been wrongly convicted of crimes, poor prisoners without effective representation, and others who may have been denied a fair trial.

Stevenson’s efforts have resulted in freeing numerous innocent people from death row. The cases he has taken on often involve the poor, the incarcerated and the condemned, challenging the inequities in the American criminal justice system. His relentless pursuit of justice has led to landmark legal decisions that have fundamentally changed the conversation on mass incarceration and racial bias in criminal justice.

He is also an acclaimed author, with his memoir "Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption" becoming a New York Times Bestseller. The book shares powerful true stories about the Equal Justice Initiative, the people they represent, and the importance of confronting injustice. The book was adapted into a feature film in 2019. Stevenson's work has won him numerous further accolades, including the MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant.
