Biography: Carl Weathers was an American actor and former football player known for his roles in film and television, as well as his accomplishments on the football field. His most iconic role was the character Apollo Creed in the Rocky film series.
Weathers was born in New Orleans. Demonstrating early athletic prowess, Weathers earned a scholarship to Long Beach City College before transferring to San Diego State University. There, he played college football and contributed to the Aztecs' victory at the 1969 Pasadena Bowl.
Upon leaving college, Weathers embarked on a professional football career, signing with the Oakland Raiders in 1970. After a brief stint, he moved to play for the BC Lions until 1973. While he pursued sports, Weathers also explored drama, culminating in a degree from San Francisco State University in 1974.
Transitioning from sports to the screen, Weathers began acting. He made a significant impact with his portrayal of Apollo Creed in Rocky (1976), a role he continued to play in the sequels that spanned nearly a decade.
Branching out, Weathers shared the screen with famous actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987). His career included comedic turns in Arrested Development (2004, 2013) and voice work in the animated series Star vs. the Forces of Evil (2017-2019).
On the personal front, Weathers was married to Mary Ann Weathers, and the couple enjoyed family life with their two sons.
