Biography: A Pulitzer Prize (2013) and Grammy Award (2022) winning composer of contemporary classical music, Shaw followed her mother's lead, as a violinist and singer.

Her best known pieces are the a cappella "Partita for 8 Voices", and "Narrow Sea".

Shaw began violin lessons at age 2, and composing by the time she was 10. After rudimentary education from her church services and classical radio stations, she received more formal training at Rice, Yale, and Princeton universities.

In addition to her traditional and contemporary classic work, she has also collaborated with Kanye West on some of his music between 2015 and 2019.
