Biography: Charlie Sifford was the first African American golfer to play in the US PGA tour. Overcoming racism he went on to have a successful career and pave the way for others, including Tiger Woods.

Sifford first competed in the US Open in 1959 before joining the PGA tour in 1961. He later won two professional events and won the PGA Senior's Championship in 1975.

Sifford has been inducted into the Golfing Hall of Fame and in 2014 was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
