Biography: Cynthia Erivo is a critically acclaimed actress, singer and songwriter and has appeared successfully on stage, television and film.

Erivo graduated from the Royal College of Dramatic Arts in the UK. She first played the role of Celie in the musical version of The Color Purple in the UK in 2013 before following the production to Broadway in 2015 and starring alongside Jennifer Hudson and Danielle Brooks. Her performance won her the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical in 2016. The production also won Best Musical Theater album at the Grammys in 2017.

Erivo's film roles include Steve McQueen's 2018 film "Widows" and the 2019 film "Harriet" portraying Harriet Tubman the antislavery activist. For this role she was nominated for Best Actress and Best Song for both a Golden Globe and for Academy Awards.
