Biography: Dale Jarrett is an American stock car racing driver and sports commentator best known for winning the NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship in 1999 and for his three Daytona 500 victories in 1993, 1996, and 2000. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014.

Jarrett grew up immersed in the racing world as the son of 2-time Grand National Champion Ned Jarrett. Despite excelling in golf during high school and receiving a full scholarship offer, he declined it to pursue a career in racing.

Jarrett entered his first professional race in 1977 and worked his way through various racing divisions, eventually making his Winston Cup Series debut in 1984. By 1991, he won his first career Winston Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.

The 1990s saw Jarrett take several high-profile victories, including the Daytona 500 in 1993, 1996, and 2000. He won the NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship in 1999 and was known for starting the tradition of kissing the bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Even as he continued to race competitively through the early 2000s, he decided to retire from points racing after the 2008 Food City 500.

After retiring from racing, Jarrett transitioned to a broadcasting career. He joined ESPN/ABC's sports commentary team in 2007 and later moved to NBC Sports in 2015.

One of his children, Jason Jarrett, is a former driver, and another, Zach Jarrett, is a professional baseball outfielder. His brother-in-law, Jimmy Makar, is a former crew chief.

Jarrett has also dabbled in business, co-owning a Busch Series team with former NFL quarterback Brett Favre and a fantasy sports site. Additionally, he is an avid golfer, maintaining a 2 handicap.

Jarrett received several honors throughout his career, including being named one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998 and one of NASCAR's 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014 and won awards such as the Richard Petty Driver of the Year and the Best Driver ESPY Award.
