Edward VI

King of England and Ireland Edward VI

Profession: King of England and Ireland

Nationality:
England
English

Biography: Edward VI was King of England and Ireland, inheriting the throne as the only son of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour. He never reached the age of maturity to take control of the realm for himself.

Edward was the first English monarch to be raised a Protestant, rather than a Catholic, and he was expected by his father Henry to continue in the efforts of the Reformation. Sadly Edward did not live long enough for much, dying at only 15 years old.

While Edward's advisors sought to have him select Jane Grey as the next in line of inheritance, this arrangement was short-lived with Grey only holding the throne for nine days. The Protestant Grey was quickly deposed by Edward's Catholic half-sister, Mary I.

Born: October 12, 1537
Birthplace: Middlesex, England
Star Sign: Libra

Died: July 6, 1553 (aged 15)
