Biography: A poet from a young age Elizabeth Barrett Browning was one of the most famous Victorian poets with a prolific output, despite being ill health for most of her life.

Barrett Browning is most know for such poets as "How Do I Love thee" and "Aurora Leigh" but she was also a prominent figure in the campaign for the end of slavery and for child labour regulation. Her stand against slavery is particularly poignant as her own families wealth derived directly from Jamaican plantations and its slaves.

In 1845 Barrett Brown met fellow poet Robert Browning and they courted in secret until their marriage in 1846 against her father's wishes. They moved to Italy where they lived for the rest of their lives and where Barrett Browning continued to publish until her death in 1861.
